✊ A 57-min deep dive on how to get clients from your podcast

Happy Monday friends,

According to the data, the odds of making a full-time living off an audio-only podcast alone are roughly the same as the odds of making it to the NBA as a professional basketball player.

In other words: Slim.

In total, there might be a few hundred shows in the world that have managed to attain this feat.

The ones that do have most likely built:

  1. A huge (by podcasting terms) audience of at least 10–15k dl/ep (while publishing at least two episodes per week, each with 3 fully booked ad slots).
  2. A super niche, super valuable audience that brands with super high ticket products (think enterprise sales contracts worth $50k+) are willing to pay to access.

But while the percentage of shows making a living off their shows alone is vanishingly small...

There are thousands of podcasters who—while they may not generate any revenue directly from the show—bring in 5-, 6-, or 7-figures a year based on the clients and customers their show spins off.

What's more, the bar for achieving this kind of podcast-driven revenue is way lower.

With the right product, right audience, and right show, it's not uncommon for shows with 500 dl/ep or less to generate 6-figures or more per year.

And yet...

Despite creating their shows for this exact purpose, few founders and marketers manage to crack the code.

What gives?

My friend, (and longtime Scrappy Podcasting reader) Josh Spector had the same question.

And after a couple of juicy 1:1 calls about podcast marketing, we finally decided we should record one of them to share more broadly.

The conversation, on Josh's I Want to Know podcast, focuses primarily on how to create and use your show to get clients.

But we also go through some rapid-fire tips on show naming and cover art design, episode titling, picking a format, and more.

Enjoy.

Stay Scrappy,

If you're feeling like you're spinning your wheels when it comes to your show and are looking for an honest, no-bullshit, straight-shooting assessment, I've got 6 3 spots remaining in 2024 in my private Podcast Growth Engine program.

Here's how it works:

  1. I spend 10-15 hours auditing your show, poring over the most minute details.
  2. I then put together a 1.5–2 hour video report breaking down precisely why your show isn't growing and/or converting buyers, the specific problems that must be addressed, and my recommendations on how to fix them.
  3. We meet for 90-min to debrief, answer all your questions, and start workshopping solutions.
  4. I put together a personalized 6-week growth plan to help you solve the biggest bottleneck as quickly as possible.
  5. We meet up 1:1 every 6 weeks to strategize together, followed by a new custom growth plan from me.

If you're interested in learning more and grabbing one of the remaining spots, reply with "Growth Engine" and I'll send you over all the details.

Long-time Scrappy Podcaster (and one of the earliest PMA Members) Sam Guia recently had me on his show, Mics to Millions to talk about how podcasters can (and should) step up their email marketing game. Among other things, we discussed why email is the ultimate sales tool (and how it forms the perfect compliment to a podcast).

Check out the episode here.
