Happy Friday friends,

What's the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the podcast title "Discover Ag"?

Having grown up on the Canadian prairies, with countless friends and relatives who work in the agriculture industry, I had a very clear idea of who and what this show was going to be.

In a word...

BORING.

Like mind-numbingly, stupor-inducing, drier than tumbleweeds blowing across the plains of Saskatchewan boring.

So when Justin and I pulled the show's name for our latest podcast roast, my heart sank.

The name alone told me everything I needed to know about what we were in for.

Cover art that looked like it was designed by an intern at the Farmers Association of America.

And an uninspired show description to match.

Not that they're working with much, mind you.

How interesting a description could you possibly write given the subject matter?

Alas, the show's name had been pulled and as such, we were bound by ironclad covenant to roast it.

And what a roast it promised to be.

Except...

As I pulled up the show in my app, it became immediately clear that everything I thought I know about the show was wrong.

👉 Watch the roast on YouTube

In this roast, we cover:

  • The crucial (and widely overlooked) skill of positioning your show effectively within a given category
  • Standing out and communicating your differentiation through design
  • How to avoid confusing your listeners with your packaging
  • Rewriting the show's description to better communicate the show's hook
  • A cover art design hack that no one talks about but makes a huge difference in attracting listeners
  • And more

If you're feeling brave enough to submit your own show for a roast, here's how to do it:

  1. Subscribe to Podcast Marketing Trends Explained
  2. Leave us a review that includes your show name
  3. Wait nervously on pins and needles, hoping that we don't (or do) pick you

Shaping up to be a rainy weekend here in Barcelona. Hope you have a great one wherever you are, and as always...

Stay Scrappy,

If you're looking for an honest, no-punches-pulled assessment of why your show isn't growing and/or converting clients & customers, followed by a personalized step-by-step gameplan for your show, I have 5 spots left before my wedding break this summer.

On these audits, I spend 10-15 hours studying every aspect of your show and then put together a 1.5–2-hour video report of the precise issues that are stifling your growth.

Following the audit, we meet up to discuss the findings and next steps, then I build you a hyper-actionable growth plan showing you exactly what to do to get moving in the right direction.

There's currently a 6-week waitlist to get started, but if you're curious about grabbing one of the last 5 spots, reply to this email with "Interested!" and I'll send you all the info.

Bet you never thought you'd be taking life advice from a man with a microwave on his head...

Another one told me his name months ago but by the next day, I'd forgotten it. At this point, eight months—and...
