Hi friends,

As a couple of seasoned (perhaps even grizzled) podcast marketers, expectations were high going into Season One of our show, Podcast Marketing Trends Explained.

Personally, I had a secret goal of hitting 1,000 dl/ep by the end of season one.

It was an ambitious goal.

Especially for a brand-new show and a 10-week window to get the word out...

But given my co-host Justin and my existing podcast-centered audiences, I thought it juuuuuust might be possible.

So with this week marking the end of Season One, the big question is: How close did we come to hitting the 1k dl/ep mark?

On the one hand, we made a handful of mistakes and let a bunch of opportunities slip by when it came to the marketing and promotion of the show.

But we also had some happy accidents and experiments—both planned and organic—that paid off.

In fact, one of those experiments alone nearly doubled our listener count for the season 👀👀

On this week's episode, we're publicly auditing our Season One performance and breaking down:

  • Our Season One stats across a number of categories and how we're analyzing them to make decisions going forward
  • What we feel we did well with the show this season on both the creative and marketing fronts
  • Where we dropped the ball, made mistakes, and missed out on opportunities
  • Some unexpected surprises and lessons that emerged over the course of the season
  • How we're taking what we've learned and applying it going forward

Let the Roasting Continue

While this season of Podcast Marketing Trends Explained may be wrapping up, Justin and I will be continuing to (lovingly) roast listener shows on YouTube.

If you're feeling brave and you want to submit your show, leave us a rating and review in Apple Podcasts that includes the name of your show.

When it comes to the roasts, we're just getting started, and have some new ingredients to add to the mix going forward.

So make sure to get your show in for the chance to get salted, seasoned, and roasted 😈🔥🍗

Stay Scrappy,

PS. If you have a show that has potential but is stuck at under 500 dl/ep, here's the step-by-step playbook to build momentum and reach that milestone.
